The International Civil Aviation Organization has begun a one- week audit of the aviation security sector of Liberia. The audit, which runs from September 2-11, 2019 will be conducted on the Liberia Aviation Sector Regulator (LCAA), Airlines, Airport Authority and other National Security Agencies in connection with the aviation sector. The audit is in adherence to ICAO Annex 9 and 17 of ICAO standard procedures and guidance for the Civil Aviation Industry Security which calls for the re-assessing the overall levels of Member States’ aviation security performance achieved; which is aimed at continuously enhancing Member States’ aviation security compliance and oversight capabilities as well as identifying deficiencies in the overall aviation security performance of Member States and assessing the risks associated with such deficiencies among several other things Speaking at the opening of the week-long audit, the Director-General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Emmanuel J. Nuquay described the audit as fortunate and said that the audit was timely as they are awaiting the amended LCAA acts approval by the Liberian Parliament. He expressed his anticipation of a good performance report in honor of LCAA. “The good performance result of LCAA AVSEC units from the audit will add value to the long-awaited amended acts’’, he concluded. Also speaking at the program, Mr. Nauh Padmore, Manager of the LCAA – Aviation Security Section asked for a good partnership base audit during the process. For his part, the head of the ICAO audit team Mr. Aurelien Lavayssière said the audit would focus on Liberia Civil Aviation Authority – Aviation Security Section, Security at the National level, Security Procedure and Measures and Implementations as well as Observation at RIA. Members of the Liberia National Police, Robert International Airport Authority ( LAA), Armed Forces of Liberia, National Security Agency the host LCAA attended the opening program.
