On July 3, 2019, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with the Roberts Flight Information Region (RFI) hosted a follow-up conference on the establishment of a National Search and Rescue committee for Liberia. The two days follow- up conference brought together Government Ministries, Autonomous Government Agencies, NGOs and other institutions involved with Aviation, Maritime and the Security sector in Liberia. The purpose of the follow-up conference was to review the Gap –Analysis, create draft legislation for enactment into law, and establish and working committee. The first conference was held on May 13, 2019, as a kick up initiative from ICAO as per mandate and requirement for all member states to establish a National Search and Rescue Committee. During the opening section, Mr. Auguster Tamba, Technical Manager of Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, welcome everyone in attendance and give an overall recap of the previous meeting. The working session was presided over by Mr. Samuel Ender, during the meeting; Mr. Ender opened the session with a discussion on gathering consentaneous view about creating draft legislation for enactment into law. He also presented the draft National Search and Rescue Liberia Gap-Analysis document for inputs, amendment, and recommendations. During the course of the discussion, the body overwhelmingly consented to adopt the Liberia Maritime Authority enacted legislation for amendment and filtering to be used as a draft working legislation. The two daylong sessions ended with participants agreeing to complete the Gap-Analysis for presentation to the Ministry of Transport.
